Sabaragamuwa Stallions led by Rohitha Rajapaksa emerged champions of
the Second Leg of the Carlton Super Seven Rugby Tournament with a
stunning win over First Leg winners, Jaffna Challengers by 47 points
(seven goals, one try) to 14 (two goals) in the final played at Race
Course Grounds yesterday.

The Jaffna Challengers who won the 1st ‘leg’ of the Carlton Super
sevens Rugby Tournament in Galle was in line to take the 2nd ‘leg’ too
when they beat Northern Gladiators by 21 points 9 3 goals) to 17 (One
goal two tries) in a hard fought semi-final while in the other
semi-final Sabaragamuwa Stallions overcame Western Warriors by 26 points
(3 goals I try) to 10 (2 tries).
Jaffna Challengers were helped Kenyan duo Willie Ambaka and Cuma ably
supported by the Lankan duo of Saliya Kumara and Sajith Saranga which
helped them to ward off a fierce challenge from Northern Gladiators for
whom Sri Lanka skipper Fazil Marija and Vishwamithra Jayasinghe played a
key role. In second semi-final Sabaragamuwa Stallions powered by the
fastest Sevens player Carlyle Isles scored a stunning 26-10 win over the
formidable Western Warriors led by Yositha Rajapaksa.

Vipers beat North Western Blacks 33-7, Central Kings drew with Southern
Sharks 26-26, Jaffna Challengers beat Northern Gladiators 21-17,
