Exports up in October
Exports continue to surge with the latest volumes showing a promising
uptrend.
"The export trend in September is continuing. The 3% export increase
in October is higher than expected," said Minister of Industry and
Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen. Accordingly, the January-October 2013
exports turnover increased by 3.07% to $ 8,379.93 million compared to $
8,130.20 million during the corresponding period of the past year.
According to the provisional data provided by the EDB, apparel rose
by a 9.39% to $ 3,549.94 million, while Industrial products rose by
2.32% to $ 6,139.64 million. Agricultural exports rose by 8.63% to $
2,015.85 million while tea exports also rose by 8.96% to $ 1237.82
million.
Other export crops such as spices, vegetables and fruits joined the
trend, rising overall by 42% to $ 430.01 million. |
