BoC bags Best Sustainability Project award

The Bank of Ceylon (BoC) was awarded the Best Sustainability Project
Award under the 'other' category at the Best Corporate Citizen
Sustainability Awards ceremony organised by the Ceylon Chambers of
Commerce at the Cinnamon Grand last week.
BoC Mithuru is a strategic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
project of the Bank of Ceylon to empower the most needy segments in
society to become self sufficient.
The project was recognised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce under
Best Project category (other) at the Best Sustainability Awards 2013.
The Bank of Ceylon has set up small BoC Mithuru groups islandwide and
provides them with advisory services and financial assistance under the
micro financing loan schemes.
This project is aimed at alleviating poverty through collaborative
effort. It provides a structured facilitation for people in needy
segments of society, by forming groups with like-minded people,
inculcating the habit of saving within the group, improving livelihood
by facilitating financial assistance for income generating activities
and helping them to break out from the cycle of poverty and debt. |
