Intel entered into a technology partnership with the Education
Ministry at the UN-based World Summit Awards (WSA) Global Congress 2013,
to support initiatives to transform Sri Lanka into a knowledge hub.
Hosted in Sri Lanka for the first time by the Information and
Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), the biennial global
congress featured over 60 high-profile speakers and was attended by
close to 1,000 international delegates.
"The Congress brought together some of the leading thinkers on
information and communication technology, while bringing the world's
best e-Content and innovative ICT applications to Sri Lankan shores. We
are glad to have offered our support to the event set to launch a new
wave of innovation in the local ICT industry," said Country Business
Manager, Intel EM Limited - Sri Lanka Liaison office, Indika de Zoysa.
"Global markets are transforming at a rapid pace as businesses
venture into newer arenas. Jobs that are in demand today did not exist
10 years ago. This has brought in a new set of challenges for education
systems which need to guide students to solve problems that did not
exist."
"In preparing them for future success in a global information
society, educationists need to help develop students' communications,
critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving skills while
making them digitally literate as well," he said.
"We at Intel are working on creating student-centred classrooms
allowing students to learn in a way that they are comfortable with at
anytime, anywhere. Going beyond integrating technology into the
education system, we believe that sustainable change needs a
comprehensive approach focussed on student success.
Working with the Ministry of Education, we have made significant
progress in this direction," Zoysa said |
