Govt invests Rs. 300 m on livestock development

Sri Lanka will be self-sufficient in egg production by the end of
2014 under the Livestock development program launched by the Ministry of
Economic Development in its Divi Neguma’ ational development program.
Consequently, the import of eggs would be completely stopped by next
year.
This new concept of promoting poultry industry among rural folk as a
livelihood development project, 330 million eggs will be added annually
to meet the country's egg consumption requirements. UP to now, 1.1
million chicks have been distributed among village families under Divi
Neguma program islandwide.
Another 6 lakhs of chicks are to be distributed among low income
families in remote areas of the country within next two months. Rs. 300
million will be invested by the government on this livestock development
project. |
