CR and FC in runaway 81-10 win over CH and FC
By Ranjan Anandappa
CR and FC went on the rampage amidst an absolute deluge defeating
traditional rivals CH and FC by 81 points (8 goals and 5 tries) to 10 (1
goal and a penalty) at the Royal College Sports Complex grounds
yesterday.
It rained right from the kick off and the rain gradually increased
and turned out to be a deluge . But the ‘red shirts’ ball handling was
very good even in slippery conditions. This made the main difference as
CR and FC ran the ball with good control which kept their back division
moving fast.
CR and FC opened scoring in the second minute of the game when Heshan
Gunaratne broke off and scored under the post. There after it was an
orgy of tries and the CR and FC scored four goals and collected 28
points within the first fifteen minutes of the match.
Vaa Lafaele the Samoan player scored two tries, Dushan Lewke,
Pushpakumara Dassanayake ,Hasthika Bandarnayake and Vishwamithra
Jayasinghe scored easy tries while Rimizi Jamaldeen gave them the extra
points.
The match was brought to an abrupt half just before the breather due
to heavy rain and at times accompanied by thunder and lighting. But once
resumed CH and FC’ Indika Wickremanayake put over a penalty and the
winners led 47-3 at the breather.
On resumption the rain had receded and the CH and FC gave a better
display.
But the CR and FC using their forwards and the combination of the
back division made fewer number mistakes while handling ball and kept
their line in motion. During this period of time Rahul de Silva crossed
the ‘CH’ line twice and Dushanth Lewke, wingers Piyum Jayasinghe, Heshan
Gunaratne and full back Dinesh Lakshan scored tries through their hard
runnung.
For the losers Chanaka Bandara scored off a short tap and the foreign
player Paula gave them the extra points.
