Sportswomen from Gateway schools at Rajagiriya, Kandy, Negombo and
Dehiwela were recognized and rewarded for their outstanding
achievements. Nearly 200 students who had represented the schools in no
less than 15 different sports received awards of Merit, Colours and
Special Awards.
The highlight of the evening was the awarding of the prestigious
'Gateway Dove' to Nichula Liyanage and Pasan Liyanage for basketball and
Hiruni de Zoysa for swimming. These three athletes were selected to the
national team.
Nimal Lewke speaking on the occasion emphasized the fact that mere
practice does not make things perfect but perfect practice makes things
perfect.
He also encouraged students to be dedicated to their sports and be
focused in planning for higher education and future career ambitions.
The program for the evening was executed to precision by Gateway
