Red Bull 'Ride My Wave' engulfs Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan surfers will test their prowess against international
competitors at the Red Bull Ride My Wave championship at Arugam Bay
scheduled to begin on July 23 and run over three days.
The champion will be crowned champion of Red Bull Ride My wave 2015.
The Association of Surfing Professionals will conduct the event in
accordance with international surfing rules and regulations.
Sri Lankan surfers will compete with the home advantage although they
are also expected to face stiff competition from their overseas
counterparts.
Organisers contend that the coming of both local and international
talent is likely to showcase and project Sri Lanka as one of the best
surfing destinations.
Surfing in Sri Lanka according to the organisers has come a long way
from first catering to amateurs and tourists to a professional sport.
In 2013, Red Bull Sri Lanka and Peruvian champion surfer Gabriel
Villarán teamed up to conduct a workshop and competition where 30 young
Sri Lankans displayed their prowess on the beaches of Arugam Bay.
The inaugural Red Bull Ride My Wave held last year was a result of
the success of that workshop.
Organisers have called on surfers to register for Red Bull Ride My
Wave 2015 before July 19 at
