Currency for visually-impaired
President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the Central Bank's
Deputy Director General to print currency notes with special marks
easily identifiable to the visually-impaired, following representations
by the Visually-Impaired Graduates' Association.
There are nearly 300,000 fully visually-impaired persons in Sri Lanka
and the government has decided that this would be one way to cater to
their special needs.
Provision of employment for the visually-impaired graduates, giving
effect to international conventions on the visually- impaired and
educational assistance to their children are some of the progressive
measures in the pipeline. |
