Beyond imagination! Last month’s floods that wreaked havoc to life and livelihood, may be a thing of the past for the busy urbanite, but not for this little boy and many like him, who overnight became displaced students with no school to call their own. Over 300 schools in the five flood affected districts of Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Kalutara and Ratnapura were destroyed by the accompanying landslides, and 90 were completely washed away. Most students are now being taught in makeshift classrooms. But this little boy who can’t quite believe what has happened to his school - the Lankagama Junior School in Deniyaya, will soon have cause for jubilation when construction work is completed, courtesy a Rs. 10 million donation from ANCL, and Lankagama Junior is converted to a modern model school. New impetus to resume peace talks

Moves to resume the stalled peace talks between the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and the Government with the offer of a new proposal for the North-East interim council is expected to gather momentum with the arrival of former Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Jon Westborg this week.
