Former star shuttler and family on top

A former national champion and Uber Cup shuttler, Sriyani Deepika Pieris of the Union Bank of Pakistan and her family emerged the winners of the Dulux Family Fun Game Championship of the Mercantile Badminton Association (MBA) at the Fingara Town and Country Club. This was sponsored by CIC Paints (Pvt) Limited.

The Pieris family beat Anuraji de Silva of SriLankan Airlines and his family 2-1, while in the event for families without children, Sujith Wijetunga also of SriLankan Airlines and his family beat Channa Suriyabandara of Seylan Bank and family 2-1.

Meanwhile, the Mercantile Open Championships also sponsored by CIC Paints will be worked off from September 6 to 10 at the Royal College Sports Complex and SLBA courts. The events to be staged are - Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Men's Over-40 Veteran's Singles and Doubles, Women's Veterans Over-35 Singles and Doubles, Masters (Over-50) Singles and Doubles.

Entries close on August 21 and the draw takes place on August 31.
