The Government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa
has not given up hope to bring the LTTE to the democratic frame. The
LTTE treats President Rajapaksa in the same manner it treated his
predecessors. One could analyse that Rajapaksa is being treated in a
more vicious manner by the Tigers. The President was not even given
space to breathe after assuming office. Within three weeks, the LTTE
started to explode claymore mines. No other President of the past
had experienced such a trauma within three weeks in office. But, the
President acted with much caution and restraint to save lives of the
people.

Claims and counter claims over Mannar air attacks
Amidst LTTE allegations over civilians
casualties in the air strikes in Illuppaikadavai, north of Mannar,
it remains a fact that Illuppaikadavai, the scene of the aerial
bombardment, housed a major sea Tiger facility. Illuppaikadavai was
identified as a main sea Tiger base, long ago in mid 90s. The main
base located interior in Illuppaikadavai, was supported by four
satellite bases on the coast which functioned as launching pads for
sea Tiger craft.
