President orders Police to swing into action

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday directed Inspector General of Police to submit a special report before March 15, on the bodies found in two different places, and bring those who were responsible to book, at a special meeting was called by the President to discuss this issue with IGP Victor Perera and senior Police officers.

He said that an organised group is trying to tarnish the image of the Government and a conspiracy has been hatched to bring the government into disrepute in the eyes of the world.

Addressing the Police officers, the President pledged to make public the findings of the investigations. He instructed the Police to take immediate action to check violent crimes, extortion and human rights violations.

The President also directed Police to get cracking with drug peddlers and urged the Police to disregard to pressures from interested parties.
