Donald heads Referees and Judges again
BOXING: Donald Munasinghe who is considered a legend in the local
boxing scene was re-elected uncontested as the president of the Boxing
Referees and Judges Association of Sri Lanka for the fourth time in
succession.
Munasinghe opted to step down, but at the annual general meeting the
entire "house" insisted he continue to guide them and maintain unity.
A former boxing captain of Thurstan College, Munasinghe, later not
only coached his alma mater, but also guided the destinies of Arethusa,
Mahiyangana MMV and Veyangoda Central and served on the Executive
Committee of the Sri Lanka Schools Boxing Association from 1996 to 2000
and was its President twice.
He also served on the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Amateur
Boxing Association from 1968 and continues to do so upto date.
He has been a Referee-Judge since 1972 and a Juror since 1995 and is
its Chairman at present. Munasinghe has also served as the national
coach (both senior and junior) too.
K. V. Dharmadasa was re-elected Vice-President, while Group Captain
Nishantha Dharmadasa was re-elected for the fourth consecutive occasion
as Secretary. Robert Wellington was also re-elected as Assistant
Secretary with Aubrey Pieris was re-elected Treasurer.
