Anandian Malith Gunatilleke snatches lead in All-Island Contest

Popular cricketers: Ananda skipper Malith Gunatilleke jumped into the lead in the Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year - All Island Contest when votes were counted in coupon No. 6 of the contest.

At the end of last week, Rajeeva Weerasinghe of St. Joseph's College was in the lead with Malith Gunatilleke of Ananda second. However, at the end of counting on coupon No. 6, Gunatilleke has polled 2,299 votes while Weerasinghe had polled 1,598 votes and is presently in second position. There was no change for third position from last week with Royal skipper Haroon Mowjood polling 1,276 votes.

There were no changes in the voting pattern in the outstation contest with last week's leader Lahiru Pathirana of Kegalu Vidyalaya at the top with 843 votes. Akila Weerasinghe of St. Thomas', Kotte is presently second with 661 votes and Asanka Nanayakkara of St. Anthony's, Wattala third with 468 votes.
