Taboo on Tigers in South Africa - SA President

The President of South Africa Thabo Mbeki said the LTTE would not be allowed to operate in South Africa and support terrorism in Sri Lanka. He pledged his government's support to find a political solution to the Lankan ethnic crisis.

Close tab on liquor outlets during Vesak

The Excise Department will keep a close tab on liquor shops, restaurants and hotels that sell liquor during the Vesak period from today till May 5. All liquor bars will be closed during this period on a directive issued by the Excise Department.

CPC fuel for LTTE ruled out

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation said yesterday that there was no possibility of the LTTE getting fuel from the CPC for their air attacks on the Katunayake Air Force Base and Palaly army base.

Military thwarts another LTTE attempt

Sri Lanka Air Force activated its air defence systems in Colombo and Katunayake due to a suspicious air movement in the early hours of today. It is believed that the LTTE Tigers made another unsuccessful attempt with one of their light aircrafts.
