Native doctor in Aphrodisiac concoction mess
Anonymous petitions kept piling daily on tables of senior police
officers at the police headquarters. These petitions relate to bountiful
harvest of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as Ganja in areas of
Thanamalvilla, Wellawaya, Lunugamwehera and in Sevenagala areas in the
deep south.
There were also petitions relating to a native doctor who
manufactured an Aphrodisiac by using Ganja in his concoctions. He
practised medicine in a remote out post at Kiribanarra at Bogaha
junction in Sevenagala police area.

When the matter was brought to the notice of IGP Victor Perera, he
immediately directed DIG D. A. Fonseka, who was overall in charge of the
Central Anti Vice Striking Force (CAVSF) to check the veracity of the
petitions. DIG Fonseka having referred the matter to CAVSF then called
for an immediate report from SSP Jayantha Perera.
Back at the Walana Vice Squad (CAVSF) headquarters the question that
ran thorough the minds of senior officers was on the strategy to locate
and raid the factory where aphrodisiac products were manufactured. SSP
Jayantha Perera, ASP D. L. Ranaweera and the OIC Inspector Duminda
Balasuriya mapped out a strategy to raid the Kiribanarra industry.
They decided to send a policemen to Kiribanarra disguised as a
labourer to find out what was happening. He was told to find employment
in a vegetable plot at Sevenagala area. The disguised policeman after
arriving at Kiribanarra was lucky enough to find work as a labourer in
the factory owned by the native doctor.
The ingredients used by the native doctor to manufacture aphrodisiac
products was kept as a close by guarded secret. It was because the main
ingredient used in the preparation of Madanamodakaya was Ganja.
The native doctor kept it under wraps to prevent employees from
knowing the secret. Only a handful of his trusted employees knew the
secret. The doctor was a man from the South who arrived at Kiribanarra
in Sevenagala area in 1980 to set up practice.
A shrewd man, who ventured into manufacture aphrodisiac like
Madanamodakaya to cure impotency. He knew the pot of gold was at the end
of the rainbow. So he went ahead in manufacturing Madanamodakaya.
The concoction sold like hot cakes in villages and in towns. He
amassed wealth by manufacturing and selling the Madanamodakaya. Even as
a native doctor, he had a lucrative practice. His fame spread throughout
the country and persons from distant parts of the country sought his
treatment at his clinic at Kiribanarra. It was said that nearly 100
people came to consult him at his clinic daily.
He led a luxurious life and owned a Pajeero jeep and a fleet of 15
vehicles including lorries and vans to distribute his medicinal products
in almost every nook and corner of the country.
His factory was located at the house where he first came to reside at
Kiribanarra in Sevenagala in 1980. But after becoming rich in a short
span of time he moved in to a two storied luxury house that he built in
the village.
He owned three houses in the village including the factory that he
set up to manufacture medicine. In Sevenagala, Embilipitiya, Hambegamuwa
ares vast swathes of land have been cultivated by farmers to plant
Cannabis Sativa, vegetables and Indian corn. Several migrant workers
find employment in these chenas. Nobody suspects when a stranger turns
up at these chena's to find employment.
The decoy policemen therefore had no difficulty finding employment.
Having worked there for two weeks he was able to gather a wealth of
information on what went on in the factory. The policeman
instantaneously knew that some thing fishy was taking place at the
factory where aphrodisiac products were manufactured.
The disguised policemen one day decamped from Kiribanarra and arrived
at the Walana Vice Squad. He then gave a vivid description to SSP
Jayatha Perera, ASP D.L. Ranaweera and to Inspector Duminda Balasuriya
on what was happening at Kiribakanda-Arra factory.
Having given a patient hearing to the decoy the CAVSF senior officers
launched an elaborate plan to raid the Kiribanarra factory. Fifteen
policemen were detailed to raid the factory at the crack of dawn.
However the location was kept a closely guarded secret until
policemen arrived at the scene on the following day. The policemen left
Panadura around eight O clock on July 8 and arrived at Kiribanarra in
Bogaha junction on the 9th around mid night. Before dawn they took
positions covering the factory, and the two houses owned by the native
doctor.
The trusted lieutenant of the native doctor lived with his wife in
one of the houses near by.
The policemen kept a watchful eye on the houses under lock and key.
The house was owned by the native doctor. Around 6.30 a.m. the native
doctor arrived at the house.
As he unlocked the front door and entered the team of policemen
swooped in and searched the house. They found seven sacks containing
powdered Marijuana (Ganja) and another twenty four sacks containing
powdered Marijuana mixed with some other compound. Altogether there were
847 kilograms of powdered Marijuana (Ganja) found in all the 31 sacks.
The charges were explained to the native doctor and he was taken into
custody. He was later handed over to the Sevenagala Police. The suspect
was produced before the Embilipitiya Magistrate and remanded till
investigations were completed.
