Murali bags 700th Test wicket
Sri Lanka's champion bowler Muttiah Muralitharan became the second
man to capture 700 wickets in Test cricket. He achieved this unique feat
when he completed a match bag of 12 wickets in Sri Lanka's innings win
over Bangladesh at the third Test concluded at Asgiriya Stadium
yesterday.
The 35-year-old off spinner needs only a further eight wickets to
equal Australian Shane Warne's world record of 708 scalps.
Muralitharan's 700th victim was the Bangladesh number eleven batsman
Syed Rasel who was snapped up by Farveez Maharoof with a good running
catch at mid off.
The 35 year old playing in his 113th Test match also completed his
60th five wicket haul and the 20th occasion he had claimed over ten
wickets in a match. His heroics also earned him the man of the match
award as well as the man of the series award.
