Hendala Bridge in deplorable state

Residents of Hendala, Wattala are greatly inconvenienced as the temporary bridge that links the Hendala-Negombo Road is now in a poor state.

When the old bridge gave way almost 10 years ago the Road Development Authority (RDA) built a temporary iron bridge saying that a permanent bridge will be built later.

Today the temproray bridge is worse than before with potholes at the centre. Repeated appeals from residents about the deplorable state of both bridges have fallen on deaf ears. Commuters are now using the old bridge which is narrow and hardly a vehicle could pass. As a result there is a major traffic congestion during the day. Politicians in the area exploited the bridge issue as an elections slogan.
