Lethal cargo in Galewela intercepted

A lorry carrying a lethal cargo of 784 gelignite sticks and 1100 caps has been seized in Galewela along Kurunegala-Dambulla road at 8 am yesterday.

A police team manning a checkpoint who made the detection took the driver and his assistant into custody, Defence Media Centre said.

Investigations have revealed that the lorry from Polgahawela was heading towards Nilaveli in the east the Media Centre added. Meanwhile the Air Force successfully carried out aerial attacks on identified targets at Parappukandan in Mannar yesterday.
