Ananda win three age-group titles

CHESS: Ananda College won three categories - under 9, 10 and 11 Western Province Junior Boys Chess championships organised by Golden Square International Chess Association.

D. S. Senanayake College team won the under 12 age category and Anatomy Karpov Chess Club won the under 8 category.

Among the girls, the under 12 title was won by Visakha Vidyalaya, Under 11: Girls High School, Mount Lavinia, Under 10: Anula Vidyalaya, Under 9: Sri Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo and Under 8: Golden Square Chess Club.

Altogether there were 95 teams that participated.

Boys

Ananda's winning teams were: Under 9: Supun Kuruppu, Mojitha Sathsara, Dinidu Illukpitiya, Nadun Bincsara, Shasika Wijesuriya.

Under 10 (Ananda): Pasindu Herath, Yositha Athukorale, Umayanga Egodawatta, Senith Sooriyarachchi and Haritha Rathnayake.

Under 11 (Ananda): Kaveesha Jayawardena, Thilina Dilshan, Ramesh Hettiarachchi, Minul Mithsara, Thimas Amarasinghe.

Under 12 (D. S. Senanayake College): Senith Deelaka, Senura Keheliya, Nisal Senaratne, Ayeshmantha Munasinghe, Chamod Dilshan.

Under 8 (Anatomy Karpov Chess Club): Minul Doluweera, Janindu Leelalanda, Vinod Fernando, Sunera Somabandu and S. Anojman.

Girls

Under 8 (Golden Square Chess Club): S. Sandamali, Pasindi Yathra Wijesuriya, Thanuri Leelaratne, Sayumi Munasinghe, Chanuki Rupasinghe.

Under 9 (Sri Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya): Ushari Isidara, Sarani Anuttara, Dewni Swetha, Paramitha Hansamal.

Under 10 (Anula Vidyalaya): Piyumi Rajakaruna, Nelunika Methmuni, Kaushika Senanayake, Dewni Sathura, Hasini Damini.

Under 11 (Girls' High School, Mount Lavinia): E. D. S. L. Fernando, K. Y. S. Mudaligama, D. F. V. S. Perera, K. T. P. Sanodya, Kulunu Pravavi.

Under 12 (Visakha Vidyalaya): Linisha Siriwardena, Dinithi Kulatunga, Lashani Wickramasinghe, Vidushi Weerasuriya and Suwani Gunasekera.

The under 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 age group team championships will be played in September and the prize distribution will also be held in September.
