Benz car controversy - CID unearths evidence

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the Benz car controversy has unearthed evidence that Hemantha Nishantha, the businessman involved in the incident had allegedly killed his first wife over a dispute somewhere in 2004 in the Maharagama area.

CID sleuths are also probing whether Hemantha is involved in several other murder cases, CID sources told the Sunday Observer. Meanwhile the CID has filed a report in Court seeking permission to exhume the body of Hemantha's wife buried at a public cemetery in the Piliyandala area to conduct further investigations.

They are also probing whether Nishantha was allegedly involved in the murder of a man who had killed Nishantha's brother in 2004 at Maharagama. "We are investigating whether the man was killed as an act of revenge," sources said.

According to the Jathika Hela Urumaya, Nishantha Hemantha who is involved in multi- million businesses is a tax dodger, who had sold several vehicles to people in Kilinochchi.
