by Ranjan Anandappa
TENNIS: It should be a gruelling battle for supremacy when thrice
runner up Rajeev Rajapakse will take on Amrith Rupasinghe to decide who
will win the national title at the 92nd National Tennis final that will
take place today at 1.30 p.m. at the SLTA Courts Greenpath, Colombo.
Rajeev Rajapakse has still to win a final although he featured thrice
in the national finals. He lost to seasoned Jayendra Wijesekera in 1999
and lost twice to Harshana Godamanne the present national champion in
2005 and 06'.
In the women's final which is scheduled to take place at 2.30 p.m.
defending champion and twice winner Jithmie Jayawickrema will no doubt
go to make it a hat-trick of wins after winning the titles in the
previous two years. She will be meeting Amritha Muthiah in their three
set final.
The matches that were scheduled to take place yesterday were
curtailed by rain. The matches began only at 1.30 pm .
