Colombo Dockyard presents 80 ton anchor handling tug vessel

Colombo Dockyard PLC presented its first 80 ton anchor handling tug supply vessel "GREATSHIP ANJALI" to Greatship (India) Ltd. This is the first anchor handling tug supply vessel built by a Sri Lankan company.

This vessel is the first on the list and orders for two more anchor handling tug supply vessels have been placed by Greatship (India) Ltd. The handing over ceremony was held on January 2 at the Colombo Dockyard premises.

The chief guest Minister of Enterprise Development Mano Wijerathne said: I'm happy to be associated with this handing over ceremony. Personally I like the Colombo Dockyard very much. This is not an easy task to win. However our Sri Lankan engineers did it competently. The tug vessel shows Sri Lankan engineering skills.

Managing Director (CEO) Mangala Yapa said: This is a historic moment for Colombo Dockyard. Our employees worked together for 16 months as a team to construct this huge tug vessel.

This is the biggest vessel produced by Colombo Dockyard. I thank every one who supported this task.

The Executive Chairman of Greatship (India) Ltd K. M. Sheth said: This is one of our extensive orders.

This will help to build a good relationship for both companies. I am really glad to work with Colombo Dockyard.


Greatship Anjali

An employee, U.G.S.S Rajapaksha said: We worked day and night to complete work on this tug vessel. This is the most sophisticated tug vessel built by our company. We have the ability to build bigger tug vessels. During the ceremony four employers received cash prizes and certificates for their contribution to build the tug vessel. The Colombo Dockyard set up operations in 1974.

Today Colombo Dockyard PLC has become Sri Lanka's largest engineering facility leading in the business of ship repairs, shipbuilding, heavy engineering and offshore engineering. Colombo Dockyard built over 215 vessels including ultra fast craft, patrol craft, costal surveillance vessels and tug supply vessels.

They export vessels to India, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Miyanmar and UAE.

Some salient features of the tug vessel

Speed of the vessel- 13 knots.
Bollard pull- 80 tonnes.
Deadweight- 1600 tonnes
