Machinery for coast conservation

The Coast Conservation Department offices under the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Galle, Matara and Moratuwa were compensated with machinery that were destroyed by the tsunami. Backhoes and tippers worth Rs. 170 lakhs were given to the offices.

The Asian Development Bank funded the project as part of their Coastal Resources Management Project. The machinery was presented on January 1, at the Maligawatta Ministry premises by the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Felix Perera and Deputy Minister Neomal Perera.

Secretary to the Ministry J. Piyasena and Director General of the Coast Conservation Department S. W. Pathirana were also present. The Director of the Coastal Resources Management Project, Nishanka Perera was present at the occasion.
