Five LTTE cadres killed in Welioya

The LTTE launched a mortar attack on troops at Kokkuthuduwai in Welioya on Friday morning, injuring two soldiers, military sources said.

In another confrontation in the Mullikulam area in Mannar on the same day, three LTTE cadres were killed and in another confrontation two more terrorists were killed in the area east of Janakapura in Welioya.

People who were living under the LTTE in the uncleared areas of Mannar are now moving towards the areas under Government control, ground sources said. People from Mannar and Vedithalathivu areas, now being displaced due to the LTTE, have been moving in to areas liberated by the Army in the past few weeks seeking protection.

Two Brigades, 212 and 215 who maintain law and order in these areas and are actively involved in humanitarian missions provide relief to over 456 people.

Army personnel in these areas are providing basic facilities to these people until the area returns to normalcy.
