Troops kill more terrorists; recover more explosives

Wanni-Batticaloa: Troops Confronting Tiger terrorists in several places in Vavuniya and Mannar Friday (4) killed at least six LTTE cadres while injuring a large number of other Tiger cadres during the day.

In Mullikulam area, Vavuniya troops confronted Tiger terrorists who tried to infiltrate into the military held areas and killed two of them while injuring another terrorist Friday (4) during morning hours.

Meanwhile, in Kurinchankulam and Perumakulam the same day (4) three soldiers were injured in anti personnel mine explosions between 10.55 a.m. and 12.10 p.m.

The injured were evacuated to the Anuradhapura hospital.

In another clash that erupted in Kurinchankulam on the same day (4) about 4.35 p.m. between troops and Tiger terrorists killed two more terrorists and wounded another seriously. Tiger terrorists in the meantime, launched a small arms attack on a group of soldiers in Parikkariperiya Kulam the same day (4) about 2.50 p.m. Troops retaliated and killed one terrorist while other LTTE cadres fled the area sustaining injuries.

No casualties were reported on troops. One valiant soldier who was trapped in an improvised explosion triggered off by Tiger terrorists in Thampane Friday (4) succumbed to injuries on admission to Vavuniya hospital around 12.55 p.m.

Troops in Kutinchankulam, Periyapandivirichchan and Vilattikulam recovered six anti personnel mines and an improvised explosive device during day time search operations. Troops in Karampaikkulam friday (4) captured an abandoned Tiger bunker line and recovered eight 60 mm mortar bombs, two hand grenades, eight anti personnel mines, one claymore mine and several LTTE camouflage uniforms around 8.00 a.m.

Meanwhile, troops consolidating their Defences in general Parappakandal area captured six LTTE bunkers and one of their field dressing points around 11.15 a.m.
