Monsoon Sunday Pours on a Saturday!
Ten
Second Rule ruled the stage at their official maiden gig 'Monsoon
Sunday' with a unique mix of great beats coupled with a pinch of subtle
salt. I daresay even though I was a tad bit disappointed that former
talented band mates Oshan and Swinly had to depart abroad in pursuit of
their higher studies, yet the new line-up is pretty cool.
Lead
vocalist cum guitarist Adhil Aziz continues to support the much-loved
band from their Brass Monkey Band days till today with amazing lyrics
and super-duper melodies to tickle anyone's fancy.
Aftab Aziz manages the lead guitar wonderfully and Uvindu Perera of
Thriloka fame inculcates a sense of booming bass to 10 Second Rule.
American drummer Jim Sykes contributes by ripping the drums who
coincidently is in Sri Lanka researching on music here! Kicking off the
gig was the Band called SAM who were obviously missing their bassist but
found a substitute with Aftab (of 10 Second Rule) to chip in and help
them.
However, the music didn't flow as expected but considering the fact
that these guys are talented their performance was a well-received
ice-breaker. They performed an original track titled 'Your Friend' and
two covers encompassing the Oasis classic, 'Don't Look Back in Anger'
and that Eagle Eye Cherry hit, 'Save Tonight'.
Next up was Cynosure who has a good fan base from this year's TNL
ONSTAGE horn-locker and they very much improved their performance.
Ruvin and his boys took to the stage with their own music called 'On
a Road' and also gave the audience their good rendition of Red Hot
Chilli Pepper's 'Dani California' along with 'How to Save a Life' by
Fray. The Zetter revived that TNL ONSTAGE preliminary round when they
performed their original 'Walk Away' once again.
Anil Balasuriya, former Indie Square lead and TNL head serenaded the
crowd with his own stuff called 'Maybe' which was well-received. He went
on to play covers that included 'Betterman', 'Home' and a Muse number
titled 'Starlight'.
It was no secret that many of the 'other' loyal rock fans waited for
Hollow Point Halo (HPH) to perform since it sure has been awhile since
Marsh and Ranil hypnotized their fans. Two brothers backed them on drums
and guitar and they sure made mayhem with their cool backing music.
'Sacred
Ordinary' was served on a silver platter while 'Lost Vegas Star' had a
hallucinating effect on the audience. It looked like Marsh was having a
ball with his dramatic performance and Ranil was sure looking quite a
looker with his new prominent wall-white guitar. HPH played 2 covers
including the oldie Red Hot Chilli Pepper hit 'Aeroplane' and that Nine
Inch Nailer 'Only'.
Ten Second Rule was the last but definitely not the least to perform
at their own concert with 'Groove City', 'Help Me Understand',
'Complete', 'Remember', 'After the Rain' and 'Space it Slow'. 'This War'
was performed in lieu of the present war situ in the country and the
also gig's title track, 'Monsoon Sunday' was played.
They performed a nice song 'Never to Dream Again' and even though
they played 10 songs back to back till the wee morning house their souls
never felt helpless far from the song they performed - 'My Helpless
Soul'.
We are sure that 10 second rule will rule from now onwards having
uplifted their spirits from those Brass Monkey days with a new and
improved brand of music. Their CD album 'Another Monsoon Sunday' is now
available on this website http://www.reverbnation.com/10secondrule |
