Know your boss

Being a boss is any human beings dream. Sitting in an air conditioned room, with a pretty little secretary is one of the advantages that comes with being a boss. Many benefits not to mention responsibilities goes along with it.

With the huge staff, it's definitely a hard task to make each and every person satisfied. No matter how good or understanding the boss maybe, people always find some sort of fault in them. There is another side to it as well, satisfying a boss is not as easy as we think, this weeks memory lane will focus on the different characters of bosses which we have read which we thought would help our readers as well.

Did you know that there are many types of bosses. The first of which is the weak boss. The kind of boss who's deathly scared of his superiors and therefore is incapable of supporting and backing his subordinates. The controlling boss is control freak.

He or she can't stand contradictions and or being challenged. The trick to getting along with such a boss is to negotiate without directly contradicting that person. The sexist boss is a frequently encountered personality in the work place. He or she is the kind who entertains sexual favouritisms when dealing with his subordinates.

The lazy boss wastes money and gets others to do his work because he's too lazy to do it himself. The ill mannered boss is the type of person who blows his nose at the presence of others, who comes to work wreaking of body ordure, etc... And we've all probably encountered the discouraging boss.

A very common figure, who discourages you by not providing proper training and ridiculing you in front of others for not being able to do what you were NOT trained to do. The incapable boss blames others for his mistakes that originate due to his own incapability.

The bully - the one that harasses his employees and last but not the least the sadly misguided boss who thinks he's always right. Common bad boss behaviour comprises of bullying, incompetence, harassment and discrimination, inadequate compensation, not respecting legal rights, privacy invasion, etc....

Whilst there are bad bosses there also ways to get around them. There are things you should and should not do if you want your boss to like you. For instance you shouldn't ask about things you can find solutions to your self. Be innovative, find your own solutions.

You actually know your job better than your boss, though you may not know it. Never apologize. Accepting your faults is OK, as long as you don't start off with an apology. It makes you look weak. Just give your boss the assurance that you'll do better next time. Never get emotional and don't make hasty decisions. If you are angry or upset wait till you calm down before you react.

Accept new challenges. Don't say "it's not my job." If the boss asks you to do something new don't back off. When our boss first asked us to handle a whole page in the paper at first, we were a little reluctant. And let me tell you once you get used to it, its very satisfying. Feed back is a very important part of employer-employee communication.

Tell your boss if there's something that you appreciate in her or him. Communication should always be two sided. Don't always complain and be initiative and innovative.

Do not be afraid to suggest new things while also being ambitious enough to initiate them. We hope our experiences and insights helped you in some way to cope with your boss.
