Cargills project to process fresh milk
Cargills has pioneered a project to process fresh milk and distribute
it to the doorsteps of households. All arrangements were made to roll
out this program recently in line with the government's long term
program to boost national nourishment levels.
The two main objectives of the program are to improve nourishment
levels of Sri Lankan consumers and to give milk farmers a reasonable
price for their milk. This would be a relief for busy housewives as they
could get their milk requirement delivered to their doorsteps.
Another objective of this program is to provide opportunities for
local milk farmers to sell their products at a competitive price as
Cargills has planned to collect milk through 48 cooperative milk
collection centres and process it at their state of the art factory -
Cargills Quality Dairies under strict quality control systems and best
hygiene practices.
The inaugural program of this project was launched at Cargills Food
City - Negombo recently and a new 500ml fresh milk pack was introduced
to the market.
CEO of Cargills, Ranjit Page, Managing Director of Cargills Quality
Dairies, Dr. J. Punjrath, Deputy Mayor of Negombo Municipal Council
Sepala Ranawaka and Member of the Western Province Council Nandana
Mendis were present. |
