Carlton Mountain Bike Race at Tissamaharama

The Tharunyata Hetak youth organisation's annual fund-raiser kicked off brilliantly on the 15th of February. In lieu of constructing a swimming pool for the Jaffna University, the Carlton Super Cross swung into gear at the Autodrome, Tissamaharama.

Namal Rajapaksa, the Chairman of the Tharunyata Hetak youth organisation commented, "We as members of the Tharunyata Hetak organisation have resolved to launch various programs and we are glad to be the primary drive for the Carlton Super Cross 2008. We aim to uplift the vocational education sector, offer guidance and promote such talent. We believe that it would be of great assistance to the youth of both sexes".

Action-packed events are on the schedule with the gorgeous 'Tissa Weva' coming alive for the ripple-splashing boat race. Wind-surfing, a mountain cycle race event and an elegant horse race with dashing riders will provide entertainment.

A 4x4 Jeep Rally will enthral patrons with high-power action and a Super Jeep competition will kick-off at Green Path in Colombo and race towards Tissamaharama. Full-gear car racing and motorcycle events will take the wheel on the last day.

Other concurrent events taking place is an educational exhibition and a career fair that will occupy the youth's attention till the consecutive events take place. Not only does the Super Cross offer amusement but also upliftment for the youth. Special enclaves of the armed forces showcase a wide variety of their models that are also of interest.

The Navy showcase their gun ships and various navy models whilst the Army have their own range of model tanks and weaponry. The Air Force will display their own models and hovercraft and the Police have their enclave supervised by their expertise personnel including the Bomb Disposal Squad.
