Jazeer Hassan wins Trinity Ruggerite of the Year Award 2007

RUGBY: T. S. Jazeer Hassan, popularly known as 'Jazeer' was awarded the Trinity Ruggerite of the Year 2007 award for his fine performances during last year at the recently held Trinity College prize giving ceremony. The chief guest at the function was Mr. M. Y. M. Mushin - an old boy and a Ryde Gold Medallist. Jazeer was earlier awarded the Trinity Rugby Special Award in 2006.

While in College, Jazeer excelled in studies, sports and in music. He represented the college under 13, 15, 16 and 18 teams at cricket and at rugger, he represented the college under 17 squad in 2005 and was a regular member of the 1st 15 squad in 2006 and 2007. He was also a member of the 1st 15 team at the 100 years of Rugby, which retained the 62nd Bradby Shield for the second consecutive year.

At the Centenary Anniversary fixture against Kingswood College, Kandy in 2006, he was a member of the college squad. In September, the same year, he was also a member of the college team which toured New Zealand, besides representing the Kandy District Schools Rugby 1st 15.

Jazeer Hassan was also selected to represent the All Island Schools 1st 15 rugby team which toured Chinese Taipei in December 2006 to compete at the Asian Schools Rugby Football Tournament.

He received the college rugby colours in 2006 and was re-awarded in 2007 as well. He was also the recipient of the M. T. M. Zaruk award for the Best Ruggerite in 2006 awarded by the TCK Islamic Students Movement.

Besides being a sportsman, Jazeer also possesses abundant talent in the field of music as he was placed first in the Solo Piano Senior National Level at the All Island Inter School Western Music and Dance Competition conducted by the Ministry of Education in 2004.

He was also successful in obtaining an Honours pass in Music Practical Grade 5 conducted by the Institute of Western Music and Speech, Sri Lanka in 2003. Holding the position of Sergeant at Arms of the College Interact Club and being a Sales Manager of the College Young Entrepreneurs Club were his other achievements while in college.

Jazeer after completing his A/L exam, has joined Australian College of Business Technology and is following a three-year course in Information Technology leading to a Degree. He hopes to play for CH and FC after completing his first semester this year.
