Second record for Shehan Ambepitiya

The Sri Lanka's promising youth athlete Shehan Ambepitiya of Gateway
College put up a yet another good performance to establish his second
record in the 400 metres event on the penultimate day of the three day
8th International Schools Athletic championships held at the Sugathadasa
Stadium yesterday.
Shehan 'clocked' 52.65 in the 400 metres yesterday to beat Buddhika
Hettiarachchi also of Gateway College, time of 53.19 secs of 2006. It
was a good double for Shehan who set a new record in the 200 metres on
Friday returning a time of 21.44 secs. He is also expected to win his
pet event 100 metres dash today and achieve a treble.
In addition to Shehan's record the other record breakers were Sanjuna
Sumanaweera of Royal Institute Boys under-15. Shot Putt erased off his
own mark with a throw of 14.87 metres. His 2007 record was 11.26 meters.
Yokanth Ravichandrakumar of Lyceum International School, Wattala hurted
the javeline to a record distance of 47.83 metres in the boys under-17
javelin throw. Gayandi Ranabahu of Gateway College with a good leap of
5.04 metres in the girls under-19 won the long jump.
Chamika Thalagalage of Lyceum International School Nugegoda in the
boys under-11, 80 metres dash 12.00 secs.
Nishali Rebecca Silva of Lyceum International School, Wattala a good
sprint in the 60 metres girls under-19 - 10.42 secs. Rahel Kumarathunga
of Colombo International School boys under-9, 60 metres event 9.82 secs.
Chamathka Kavindra of Gateway College girls under-17 javelin throw -
29.51 metres. Royal Institute - boys under-15, 4x100 metres relay -
49.81 secs, Lyceum International School, Wattala girls under-15, 4x100
metres relay - 56:46 secs.
