Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year:
All set for mega show on July 18
The 30th Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year awards
ceremony will be held on July 18 at the BMICH. It would be a memorable
experience for outstanding schoolboy cricketers, their supporters and
sports enthusiasts as the organisers have included several entertaining
items that would keep the capacity crowd on the edges of their seats.
As ‘the schoolboy cricketer of the year show’ completes three
decades, it has gained national recognition. This year’s contest will be
organised in association with the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Several past
Observer Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year award winners will grace the
special 30th anniversary show.
Besides the first recipient of the award - the current ICC Chief
Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle, who will be the chief guest, the Sri
Lanka Cricket chief Arjuna Ranatunga, who won the coveted award twice in
1980 and 1982, will be an honoured guest.
Ranatunga, who has always stressed the importance of paying special
emphasis on school cricket, has extended his fullest support to the
Observer Schoolboy Cricketer of the year show.
Meanwhile, entries for the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy
Cricketer of the Year All-Island and Outstation contests will close on
July 10 at 12 noon. The last round of voting coupons will appear in the
Sunday Observer on July 6 and in the Daily News, Dinamina and Thinakaran
