Young boys and girls show tremendous enthusiasm

CHESS: There was tremendous enthusiasm among chess players at the ‘Golden Square’ Western Province Individual Age Group Chess Championships held at the Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya recently. There were around 500 young boys and girls playing in the under 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 age groups for both boys and girls.

Boys

Under 8: Champion Kavindu Gamage (Lyceum International, Wattala, 2. Sunera Samabandu (Nalanda), 3. S. Anojman (Royal College).

Under 9: Champion Harith Hasanga (Royal College), 2. Mojiths Gunarathne (Ananda College), 3. D. R. Wijayaratne (S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia).
