Gateway Colours Nite tomorrow

The 7th Annual Colours Nite of Gateway College will be held tomorrow from 6.00 pm onwards at The BMICH Committee Room “B”. Many distinguished guests and sporting personalities will be gracing this occasion.

The Chief Guest will be Dr. Maiya Gunasekera who is the present Chairman of the National Sports Council. He is also a prominent sports figure in our country. In addition, a number of eminent sports figures will be gracing the occasion as Guests of Honour.

They are, Mrs. K. G. Badra Gunawardena, the current Asst. Director at the Sports Ministry as well as a former National Champion in the field of Athletics; Miss. Chandrika De Silva a former National Champion in Badminton; Priyantha Ekanayake a former National Player in the Sri Lankan National Basketball team; Ransith Fernando a National Player in Chess; Pramodya Wickramasinghe who has represented his country in many International level games and was part of the successful Sri Lankan National team which won the 1996 World Cup; Kasun Jayasooriya the captain of the National Football team of Sri Lanka; Mrs. Trixie Nanayakkara the former Netball Coach of the National Netball Team and was the former Captain of our National Squad; Rohana Karunarathne the current President of the Sri Lanka Schools’ Aquatic Association; and Rajiva Wijetunge the current President of the Sri Lanka Table Tennis Federation.

Many other invitees and dignitaries representing various denominations of the sporting arena will be present at this occasion, in addition to the students who will be receiving awards at this event and their parents.

Gateway College has become the only International school in Sri Lanka to produce sportsmen of International calibre who have represented their motherland at World Games. Shehan Abeypitiya, Keith De Mel, Udara Ratnayake, Miniruwani Samarakoon and Udari Mendis are some of our key sportsmen who have done their Alma Mater proud by participating in many International Games during the past year successfully.
