UNP more in leadership fight than LG polls
Foreign Employment and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera
said that the UNP was in the fray for the leadership rather than win the
forthcoming Local Government polls. The Minister told the Sunday
Observer that the UNP is not interested in grabing power at the Local
Government polls.

Govt will not compromise defence
President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the nation at
the 60th Anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF)
reiterated that the government would not compromise the country’s
defence at any stage and the government was engaged in a mission to
develop the country which was destroyed by LTTE terrorists.
