Mullaitivu assured of basic needs

Civil society members of the Mullaitivu district were assured that their basic needs would be addressed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Mullaitivu was one of the worst hit areas when it was under LTTE control. The LTTE deprived civilians of their essential needs.

Mullaitivu is now being developed under the Uthuru Vasanthaya program.

Members of the Mullaitivu Civil Society met President Rajapaksa for the first time on Thursday after the LTTE terror two years ago.

The President told members of the Mullaitivu Civil Society at Temple Trees that the government had initiated various development programs to rebuild Mullaitivu.

"The government will pay more attention to enhance infrastructure facilities in Mullaitivu.

The living standard of the people will be improved providing them with educational, electricity and health facilities while developing the agricultural and fisheries sectors in the region", the President said.

President Rajapaksa also assured them that he would provide all facilities to hold the annual historic Wattrapalai Amman temple festival.

Parliamentarian Sri Ranga was also present at the meeting. AP
