FOMSO praises development in Jaffna

The Federation of Malaysian Sri Lankan Organisations(FOMSO)
comprising Malaysians of Sri Lankan origin mainly from the Northern part
of Sri Lanka praised the post-conflict development program implemented
in the North when the members of the federation visited Jaffna Peninsula
on Friday.
The President of the Federation Dato S. Kulasegaran met the Jaffna
Mayoress Yogeswari Patkunaraja, Jaffna Security Forces Commander Mahinda
Hathurusinghe and the civil society members in Jaffna.
The FOMSO President Dato S. Kulasegaran commenting on his
delegation's viist to Jaffna told the Sunday Observer that the
post-conflict atmosphere in Jaffna is very satisfactory.
"People are happy. Prices of essential goods and services have
dropped. Transportation has improved. The atmosphere now prevailing in
the Jaffna Peninsula is very conducive to trade and investment and
therefore local and foreign investors should focus on rebuilding Jaffna
with constructive investments," Kulasegaran said.
He also said that his delegation had visited the now defunct cement
factory at Kankesanthurai, Jaffna and also several locations in the
islets to explore the possibility of promoting tourism in putting up
hotels.
Commenting on the discussions had with Jaffna Mayoress Yogeswari
Patkunaraja, Kulasegaran said that the Mayoress detailed his delegation
on the improvements made in the city of Jaffna following the end of the
conflict.
According to the Mayoress the infrastructure facilities have improved
to a greater extent with electricity,reconstruction of buildings and
sanitation facilities, Kulasegaran said.
