Police warn revellers

The traffic police will take serious action against students travelling on vehicles in a dangerous manner and prosecute the drivers during the big matches played in Colombo, DIG Traffic Management and Traffic Operations in the Western Province Asoka Wijetilleka said.

He said some schoolchildren travel in vehicles waving flags thereby obstructing other traffic and endanger their own lives. They travel on the roofs of vehicles and at times on the side doors of the vehicles.

"This is very dangerous and parents should also pay personal attention to the safety of their children and not permit such dangerous travelling and allow them to get involved in such behaviour", the DIG said.

"We are not doing things to harass the public but for their own safety. Parents should be conscious about this and the public must be civic conscious and support the police in their endeavours to enforce law and order", the DIG said.
