82nd Battle of the Maroons:

Bowlers dominate on day one

The 82nd Battle of the Maroons between Ananda and Nalanda is evenly poised with the bowlers of either dominating on the first day at the SSC grounds yesterday.

Ananda bowlers justified their decision of putting Nalanda into bat first after winning the toss and taking wickets at regular intervals.

The medium pacemen Sheman, Samarsinghe and Ashan bowled well on a pitch that had early life and spinner Sachitra Perera who has captured over 100 wickets this season created more problems for the Nalanda batsmen capturing 4 for 9 in 12.4 overs.

Ananda in their first innings were 102 for 5 in 35 overs with R. Sheman top scoring with an unbeaten 34 when rain intervened around 4.40 pm. The match will be continued today.
