Gurukula College and Sri Dharmaloka in search of a win

CRICKET: Searching for a result. This is the aim of the two captains
Gayan Buddhika of Gurukula College, Kelaniya and Nilanka Subodha of Sri
Dharmaloka team when they go into their 23rd 'Big Match' on March 9 and
10 at the Saravanamuttu Stadium, Colombo.
So far all the big encounters played in the series have ended in
draws. However, in the one-day series, Sri Dharmaloka has won 12 matches
to Gurukula's nine, while one of the matches ended in a 'tie'.
Popularly known as the 'Battle of Kelaniya' there are no sponsors and
efforts are being made to find a sponsor even in the 'eleventh' hour.
Over the past few years the cricket at Gurukula College has improved
and of the nine matches that the under 19 team has played they have won
seven games. Gurukula beat Raddoluwa M.V. by 133 runs, drew with Sri
Jayawardenapura M.V., also drew with Piliyandala Central, beat Kegalu
Vidyalaya by an innings and 91 runs, beat Carey College by 161 runs beat
Rahula College, Kandy by ten wickets, beat Tissa Central, Kalutara by an
innings and 13 runs, beat St. Anthony's College, Wattala by an innings
and 157 runs, beat Asoka Vidyalaya Colombo by ten wickets. Gurukula will
have allrounder and fourth year coloursman Gayan Buddhika and he has a
top score of 120 not out against Piliyandala Central. He has a total of
536 runs with six half centuries in addition. He has taken 32 wickets
this season.The vice-captain is Madhushan Chathuranga - a fourth year
coloursman and a right-arm paceman who has captured 40 wickets and has
scored over 300 runs.
Another senior player in the team is Sheshan Niwanka who has scored
around 536 runs and captured 32 wickets. Then there is Roshan Anuruddha
- a third year coloursman. He toured Malaysia with the under 15 team in
March last year.
Sri Dharmaloka is led by Nilanka Subodha - a fifth year coloursman.
He has scored over 500 runs and captured 20 wickets. Chathura Lakmina is
the vice-captain also a fifth year coloursman. He is a right-arm pace
bowler. Gayantha Anjana is a third year coloursman and he too is a fast
bowler and in batting he has scored seven half-centuries. The other
senior players in the side are Thilina Pushpitha, Pubudu Harshitha and
Gayana Geethanjana.
