500-strong police force for Southern Expressway

The Police Department will deploy around 500 personnel for duties along the Southern Expressway, under the Expressway Police Division which has been formed exclusively for highway duties after it is opened to traffic, Senior DIG Traffic Management and Police Field Force Headquarters Asoka Wijetilleka told the Sunday Observer.

Providence saves woman from robbery

Providence saved a woman from losing a bag containing Rs 7 lakhs when two men waiting in ambush near the hotel where she was staying snatched the bag and fled when she returned to her hotel. The incident took place when she alighted from the three wheeler along with others who accompanied her to the bank, the Police Media Spokesman SP, Ajith Rohana told the Sunday Observer.

Horrifying family massacre in Udawalawe:

SIM card helps arrest gunman

The village of Panahaduwa-Puhulyaya in the Udawalawe area rose from its slumber following the massacre of a family on October 13. The victims of the horrifying massacre were identified as father, mother, daughter and son, who were shot dead by an unidentified gunman who broke into their home along with accomplices around 7.45 pm with the intention of stealing the wealth the family possessed.
