Carlton Super Sevens Rugby Championship:

Central Kings and Southern Sharks remain unbeaten

Central Kings from Group 'A' and Southern Sharks from Group B winning all four matches remained unbeaten on the first day of the Carlton Super Sevens Rugby Championship organised by Carlton Sports Club in conjunction with the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union which kicked off at the Bogambara Stadium, Kandy yesterday. The matches will be continued today at 10 a.m.

The weather itself kept bright and sunny with not a drop of rain following, though it rained at dawn.

Central Kings led by Sri Lanka and Kandy Sports Club's Fazil Marija had in its ranks two New Zealanders W. Lawrence and Benjamin Botica and also Boyd Justin Ervon from the United States. The Central Kings crushed all opponents to ramain on top of Group A. The only time they were really tested was against Sabaragamuwa who did well in the first half but crumbled in the second half to lose 12-26.

Southern Sharks led by scrum half Amjad Buksh too did well to win all four matches to finish on top of Group B. The Southern Sharks had four foreign players New Zealanders Edwin Cooker and Nalu Tulgamala, Steffan James Jones from Wales and Zachery Test from the USA.

Southern Sharks had a close call against Jaffna Challengers led by Yoshitha Rajapaksa before winning 15-12. Jaffna Challengers started the championship will but lost to Northern Gladiators 19-26 in a closely fought battle. They however won their first two games against North Central Typhoons 36-12 and North Western Blacks 24-12.

Sabaragamuwa Stallions beat Western Warriors 35 points (7 tries) to 7 (1 goal)

Central Kings beat Eastern Eagles 26 points (3 goals, 1 try) to 7 (1 goal).

North Central Typhoons draw with Northern Gladiators 21 all. Both teams scoring three goals each.

Jaffna Challengers beat North Western Blacks 24 points (2 goals, 2 tries) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try)

Uva Vipers beat Sabaragamuwa Stallions 19 points (2 goals, 1 try) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try).

Eastern Eagles beat Western Warriors 20 points (4 tries) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try).

Southern Sharks beat Northern Gladiators 31 points (3 goals, 2 tries) to 7 (1 goal).

Jaffna Challengers beat North Central Typhoons 36 points (3 goals, 3 tries) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try).

Central Kings beat Uva Vipers 45 points (5 goals, 2 tries) to 26 (3 goals, 1 try).

Eastern Eagles beat Sabaragamuwa Stallions 24 points (2 goals, 2 tries) to 14 (2 goals).

Southern Sharks beat North Western Blacks 21 points (3 goals) to 14 (2 goals).

Northern Gladiators beat Jaffna Challengers 26 points (3 goals, 1 try) to 19 (2 goals, 1 try).

Central Kings beat Western Warriors 26 points (3 goals, 1 try) to 7 (1 goal).

Uva Vipers beat Eastern Eagles 26 points (3 goals, 1 try) to 19 (2 goals, 1 try).

North Western Blacks beat North Central Typhoons 28 points (4 goals) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try).

Southern Sharks beat Jaffna Challengers 21 points (3 goals) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try).

Central Kings beat Sabaragamuwa Stadium 26 points (3 goals, 1 try) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try)

Uva Vipers beat Western Warriors 19 points (2 goal, 1 try) to 14 (2 goals).

Northern Gladiators beat North Western Blacks 26 points (3 goals, 1 try) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try).

Southern Sharks beat North Central Typhoons 19 points (2 goals, 1 try) to 7 (1 goal).
