LG polls on March 24

Democratic governance will be further strengthened in the Northern province after the elections on March 24 to the two remaining Local Government bodies in the Mullaitivu district. Elections to the Pudukudiyiruppu and Karaithuraipatru (Maritimepatru) Pradeshiya Sabhas were postponed due to demining in the heavily-mined district, the LTTE’s last bastion.

Village youth to be trained as pilots:

SL a regional training hub

“The intention is to provide an opportunity to children to obtain a degree in aeronautical engineering by 2013. After the three-year degree they will be given practical training in association with the Civil Aviation Authority and the Sri Lanka Air Force to produce skilled pilots”. Minister Piyankara Jayaratne said that youth from the villages will pass out as pilots in the next six years,
