Syria unrest: Aleppo bomb attacks kill 28

At least 28 people have been killed and 235
wounded in two bombs targeting security compounds in Syria's second
city of Aleppo, state media report. State television said the death
toll included both civilians and members of the security forces and
blamed "armed terrorist gangs" for the attacks.

Diabetes quadruples birth defects risk - Researchers

The risk of birth defects increases four-fold if
the pregnant mother has diabetes, researchers say. The Newcastle
University study, published in the journal Diabetologia, analysed
data from more than 400,000 pregnancies in North East England. The
risk of defects such as congenital heart disease and spina bifida
were increased.

Electrical engineers build ‘No-waste’ laser

researchers has built the smallest room-temperature nanolaser to
date, as well as an even more startling device: a highly efficient,
“thresholdless” laser that funnels all its photons into lasing,
without any waste.
