Martin Taylor in concert

A solo concert by world renowned Jazz guitarist Martin Taylor will be held at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre on February 19 at 7 p.m. Some of the artistes who will perform in the concert are Amarasiri Pieris, Nirosha Virajini and Kasun Kalhara.

The musical evening is presented by My Wish Foundation in aid of terminally -ill children and to set up a Cancer Support Centre for children.


Odissi dance recital and lecture-cum demonstration

An Odissi dance recital by Alpana Nayak organised by Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo in association with the University of Visual and Performing Arts will take place on February 10 at 6.30 p.m. at the auditorium of the University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo 7.

Alpana Nayak will be presenting Odissi dance solo in the classical style that was embellished by her gurus the late Guru Deva Prasad Das and Guru Sudhakar Sahoo. She has enriched her Odissi style under Guru Hare Krishna Bahera. Widely travelled Alpana performed Odissi dance in many parts of the world and participated in major cultural festivals.

She has taught Odissi and different Indian folks dances in several cities of India, England and Japan.

Her Odissi dance disciples include both normal as specially gifted children. She takes special care to train Odissi dance to specially gifted children (physically and mentally challenged) in Indian classical and folk dance forms for their holistic development in the society.

Her performance and Lecture demonstration are open to the public.


Meeyo Nathuwa Bae

Meeyo Nathuwa Bae a play directed by Keerthi K. Rathnayaka will be staged on February 15 at 3.30 p.m. and 6.45 p.m. at the Tower Hall theatre. The cast includes W. Jayasiri, Ravindra, Madani Malwattage, Mahesh Umagaliya, Isahra Wickramasinghe, Sudarshana Bandara, Samith Warnakula, Chamari Nisansala, Nayana Malithi, Ruvini Dilanthi, Devran Livera, Aruna Sri Kasun and Chanidu Theniya Rathnayake. The music is directed by Pradeep Muthukudaarachchi.


Book launch

Yapahuva Purana Rajadhaniya

Kusumsiri Wijayawardhane's latest history book Yapahuva Purana Rajadhaniya will be launched at Dayawansa Jayakody Bookshop, Colombo 10 on February 14 at 10 a.m. It is a Dayawansa Jayakody publication.
