Deyata Kirula, gateway to development in A'pura

The development of the Anuradhapura district has been expedited several folds in a short period of three years, after the elimination of the LTTE, Agrarian Services Minister S.M. Chandrasena told the Sunday Observer .

He said the Government has implemented mega infrastructure and livelihood development projects in the district, especially in former conflict-affected border villages including Oyamaduwa, Padaviya and Horowpothana.

Fifty thousand families in Maha Vilachchiya Divisional Secretariat Division have been given 1,000 roofing tiles each according to Chandrasena. Computers have been given to the youth in the district. An agriculture museum will be set up in Anuradhapura. Over 40 agrarian service centres in the district have been renovated.

The Vilpatthu National Park is being developed to international standards at a cost of Rs. 420 million, Minister Chandrasena said.

The Minister said that sufficient funds have been allocated to develop religious places in the district parallel to the Deyata Kirula national development exhibition.

He said 200 small tanks in the district damaged by the LTTE have been renovated. Three giant buildings in the Deyata Kirula site will be converted into paddy stores after the conclusion of the exhibition.

A pure drinking water supply project has been implemented in Oyamaduwa. Over 30,000 families in the Maha Vilachchiya Divisional Secretariat Division will benefit, Minister Chandrasena said.

Deyata Kirula is a gateway to develop the Anuradhapura district, especially the conflict-affected Maha Vilachchiya Divisional Secretariat Division, he said.

The Minister described Deyata Kirula as a fortune provided by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the Rajarata people.He expressed confidence that all houses in the Anuradhapura district would be electrified before the end of this year.
