CGR nightmare for commuters

The Colombo Fort Railway Station, the hub of activity has two entrances. However, there is only one entrance after 9.00 pm.

The entry to the station from D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha is inaccessible after 9.00 pm.

Office workers from D. R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Sir Chittampalam A. Gardiner Mawatha and Echelon Square, who wish to board the Vavuniya-Omanthai train at 10.30 pm and the Polgahawela bound train at 11.00 pm are obliged to make a detour through Olcott Mawatha to reach the station. Those who finish work late are the worst affected.

There have been several instances where outstation passengers get themselves dropped near the closed gates. They invariably hire a private vehicle, which is at times difficult to find, to make it to the station in time.
