Easy for Antonians
S.M. Jiffrey ABDEEN - Kandy Sports Corr.
Two fifteen year old off spinners Sachin Bulathsinhala 6 for 35 and
Nimesha Gunasinghe 5 for 28 bowled St. Anthony's College, Kandy to a 126
runs win over D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo in their inter-school
cricket match concluded at Katugastota yesterday.
It was the poor batting of D.S. Senanayake College cricketers which
let them down after they chased a modest Antonian first innings total of
167.
Their first innings crumbled for a low score of 91 against some fine
spin bowling by Sachin Bulathsinhala who captured five of the six
wickets which fell yesterday returning the fine analysis of 11-2-36-6.
The Antonian batting a second time declared at 178 for 9 after
batting for only 33.5 overs. Viraj Deepal hit an aggressive 50 with
7fours, facing 47 deliveries.
Set with a target of 255 to win in 58 overs D.S. Senanayake hardly
rose up to the task and were dismissed for 128 in 48 overs in the fifth
Mandatory.
This time it was the spin of Nimesha Gunasinghe which confused the
D.S. Senanayake batsmen and he returned the figures of 12-2-28-5.
